The study of magic is a time-consuming activity that requires many years of dedicated research and academic work. For this reason those who have chosen the path of magic usually neglect physical exercise, training their minds rather than their bodies. As a result, spell casters are typically frail and cannot endure injuries the way skilled warriors can. However, sorcerers and druids reacted to this problem in their typical manner, looking for magical means to protect their weak bodies in battle. The Magic Shield spell was the result of this research. By casting this spell it is possible to deflect any physical or magical damage by using sheer will power. Unfortunately, however, the mental strain caused by the spell is tremendous, and any damage that is deflected by the magical shield is directly taken from the caster's mana reserve. For this reason the spell should be used wisely. While there is little point in using it against weak monsters, Magic Shield has saved the life of many a spell caster when battling strong monsters that otherwise would have killed him in a second.

While this spell is active, all damage received will be taken from the character's mana instead of HP. The ✨ Magic Shield Spell Icon.gif|Magic Shield Icon icon will appear in the conditions bar. Mana spent by blocking damage with magic shield does not increase ✨ Magic Level. The Magic Shield only absorbs a limited amount of damage before breaking. When this mana is depleted, the spell effect disappears. The amount of mana it absorbs depends on the character's ✨ Level and ✨ Magic Level, including equipment and skill boosts active at the moment the spell is cast, according to this formula (rounded up to the next whole number), where L is your level and M is your magic level: $Magic\; Shield\; Capacity\; =\; 7M\; +\; 7.6L\; +\; \backslash max\backslash \{300,\; 0.4L\; \backslash \}$ If you have unlocked the Enhanced Magic Shield Conviction Perk on the Sorcerers' ✨ Wheel of Destiny, then the formula is: $Magic\; Shield\; Capacity\; =\; 8M\; +\; 8.6L\; +\; \backslash max\backslash \{300,\; 0.4L\; \backslash \}$ Recasting the spell restores the shield to its maximum value. While the spell is on cooldown, mages can renew the shield by using a Magic Shield Potion. The Magic Shield can be removed by casting the ✨ Cancel Magic Shield spell.

Before the ✨ Updates/8.7|Winter Update 2010 this spell was very useful for ✨ Paladins as it can effectively double one's hit points. Before the ✨ Updates/12.55|Vocation Adjustments Update, the Magic Shield had the same amount of mana the character currently had instead of a fraction of it. Furthermore, with this update the spell cooldown was increased from 2 to 14 seconds while its duration was reduced from 200 to 60 seconds. On the following week, with ✨ Updates/12.60.10468|Update 12.60.10468, the Magic Shield duration was increased to 180 seconds.
